ABOUT THE LUMEN PRIZE

The Lumen Prize for Art and Technology celebrates the very best art created with technology through a global competition, exhibitions and events worldwide run by Lumen Art Projects. Now in our tenth year, our annual juried competition draws entries from artists globally. Since 2012, it has supported artists with more than US$90,000 in prize money and created paid opportunities worldwide for the artists who have been longlisted, shortlisted or won Lumen Awards. Lumen Art Projects, a not-for-profit based in the UK, is dedicated to providing opportunities to our community of artists who are longlisted, shortlisted or won awards.


THE LUMEN PRIZE FOR DIGITAL ART

Prize: $4,000 first prize, with a $11,500 total prize fund.
Entry Fee: $38 for 2 submissions (lower entry fee this year due to COVID), can enter up to 7 works.
Requirements: Open to artists worldwide.
Closing Date: June 4, 2021

This digital art competition is organized by Lumen Art Projects Ltd, a non-profit organization that’s dedicated to providing new opportunities for digital artists around the world. The contest guidelines are relatively loose—the only requirement is that the submitted artworks must somehow engage with technology. Categories include Still, Moving Image, XR, 3D/Interactive and Artificial Intelligence. Finalists are also eligible for the People’s Choice Award and the Lumen Gold award and all women finalists are eligible for the Rapoport Award for Women in Art and Technology.

Who can apply;
Artists from anywhere in the world, selected for the longlist, shortlist as well as the award winners are eligible for opportunities with Lumen Art Projects, our parent company.
If you are submitting a collaborative project, you must list your collaborators or partners. You can submit your work as individual or on behalf of a collective/studio.


What kind of art is eligible?
The Lumen Prize for Art and Technology has nine categories which reflect the range of media used by artists working with art and technology. Unlike other art prizes, we do not operate a yes/no system. Each entry is watched, viewed and read by at least three of international selectors committee. All longlisted works are then viewed by each member of our jury panel who select the shortlist and winners.

Prize Categories
Gold Award, $4000 The Gold Award goes to the artist whose work is judged to be exceptional across all categories of work.
Moving Image Award, $1000 For time-based artwork, including animation, CGI, generative or video art; narrative or non-narrative works.
Still Image Award, $1000 For work using digital processes, including photo-manipulation, 3D renders, or drawings. Sponsored by Photomonitor.
3D/Interactive Award, $1000 For work that engages with audiences through sound, touch or movement, including games, apps, installations, or sculpture.
BCS Immersive Environment Award, $1000 For an immersive experience using performance, XR, virtual worlds, or projection. Sponsored by BCS, Chartered Institute of IT.
A.I. Futures Award, $1000 For excellence in art that explores future relationships between humans in all areas of Artificial Intelligence, Robotics or Biotech.
Global South Award, $1000 For art created with technology by an artist or collective from Africa, Latin America or the developing economies of Asia and the Middle East. Sponsored by Radiant Law.
Student Award, $500 For a Still or Moving Image work created by a student currently enrolled in a degree programme in the arts. This prize is free to enter.
Nordic Award, $1000 For excellence in art created with technology by an artist or collective from Nordic Countries. Sponsored by Sørlandets Kunstmuseum
