Celebrating the Creativity of Construction and the Built World
Since 2010, The Art of Building Photography
Competition celebrates buildings and the relationship people have with the built environment. If you have a good eye for a photograph, are passionate about the built environment, want to share your vision and gain recognition as a photographer along the way, you can take part in this year’s Art of Building
competition and your photograph could inspire thousands of people worldwide.
Competition is open to entries for 2022.
The
competition is run by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), the largest and most influential professional body for construction management in the world. CIOB members work worldwide in the development, conservation and improvement of the built environment.
Who Can Enter
Amateur or professional international photographers can participate in the
competition.

What They Want
Entries from anywhere in the world are accepted. Entrants can submit up to
three photographs across any of the categories.
- Photos that inspire others to look at and appreciate the built world around them
- Original work by the person entering it
- Photographs must be entered in a JPEG format
- They must also be between 2mb and 8mb (per photo) in size
What They Don't Want
- Late entries, once the competition is closed we will not accept photographs
- Photographs which have embedded text, borders or are locked will not be accepted
- Submissions that have won other photography competitions are also not allowed
Prizes
There are two awards to be won:
- Judges’ Choice
- Public’s Choice
Both winners will receive a £1500 cash prize.
Winners will also gain exposure as a photographer, previous winners have been featured on the BBC website, throughout UK national press and in international titles across the globe.
If your photograph is selected as a finalist or is highly commended, it will be featured in public installations as the
competition transforms construction hoarding spaces into art galleries.
Winners are announced in 18 January 2022.
